Role:

SLR has an opportunity for an Intermediate Environmental Engineer/Scientist in our Ottawa, ON office. The role consists of reporting writing and implementation of data collection programs (field work).

Other duties include preparation of health and safety plans, coordination of field programs, preparation of environmental summary reports for work conducted, environmental monitoring of construction projects, and working on landfill groundwater monitoring programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Executing or overseeing Health and Safety requirements on projects.
  • Ensuring project quality controls are executed.
  • Under the mentorship of Senior Professionals, design, preparation and implementation of field sampling programs for soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, building materials and other media.
  • Managing projects of moderate complexity and/or assisting with the management of complex projects.
  • Preparation of environmental reports under the mentorship of Senior Professionals.
  • Liaison with clients, subcontractors and regulators through completion of projects.
  • Provide input into the growth strategy of the office.
  • Contributing to the positive and enjoyable culture of SLR.

Technical Skills / Abilities / Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in contaminated site assessment and remediation programs preferred
  • Experience with various remedial techniques (i.e. excavation, biological treatment, in-situ treatment, risk assessment).
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional organization in Ontario (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., or R.P.Bio).
  • Makes independent decisions on work methods and procedures within an overall program. Originality and ingenuity are required for devising practical and economical solutions to problems.
  • Carries out complex and varied scientific, planning and engineering assignments and assessments, requiring and understanding of a broad field of science/planning/engineering, and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields.
  • Assigns work and provides guidance to other professionals and technicians of less standing or supervises consultants assigned to work on a common project.
  • Provide technical leadership through mentoring of staff during project delivery and for other aspects such as Health and Safety, training, team building and other as required. 

Education / Qualifications / Memberships:

  • Degree or Technical Diploma in environmental science, engineering or related studies.
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work with others, supervise and direct employees and contractors.
  • Aptitude to document excellent field notes and follow direction of others.
  • Commitment to technical excellence, client care and safe work practices.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for field use.
